My career as a travel writer fell off the back of a truck in 1986, during a 28-week overland expedition from London to Johannesburg inspired by childhood hours spent reading Wilbur Smith adventure novels and Jane Goodall's In The Shadow of Man.
My articles and photographs have been published in magazines and newspapers across Australia and I have written three bushwalking guidebooks. Top Walks in Victoria 2nd Edition was released August 2019.
Many frustrating attempts to snow ski, mountain bike, and ride beasts of burden have clarified why bushwalking appeals to me so much - in addition to keeping me out of gyms and enabling me to control my own momentum. What's not to love about the taste of waterfall spray; the sound of wind in she-oaks; the feeling of insignificance in wild places far from civilisation?
So compiling walking guidebooks is a perfect fit.
I also blog about hiking at Feet First Australia.
I've been a photographer as long as I remember - initially with a Kodak cartridge camera and now with a mirrorless Lumix G9. My shelves are bowed with the weight of colour prints and slides and my hard drives full of digital images.
My career has taken me to many countries over the years and more recently focused my attention on outdoor Australia and birds.
Many of my images are available as Fine Art Prints.
When not bushwalking or photographing birds - my latest passion - I transform second-hand hats into one-off wearable artworks under the name Appliquez Moi.
I love commissions too so contact me if you've got a hat that needs revamping.
